You can get an idea of what rowing is all about in just 50 minutes, however to obtain balance, comfort and the rhythm of rowing it takes time on the water. Classes run from late spring into early fall. Our next classes are planned for late spring of 2018.We invite you to experience the joy of rowing with the Wichita Rowing Association for a brief instruction of the basics of rowing on an ergometer. Then, out to the river where you will practice sculling on dock rowers and take a seat in the shell to learn how to scull on the water. Our experienced coaches will guide you through every step of the way.
Adult Intro To Rowing:
Take this class first to get your toes wet (no pun intended) and see what our rowing program is all about. That way you have a chance to try it out. Whether wanting a fun way to stay active or something more competitive, rowing is an awesome outdoor activity for all ages. However, it does take some movability to get in and out of a boat so this class is a neat way to try out rowing before joining the club.
Adult Learn To Row:
We recommend you take the longer Adult Learn to Row class to learn to row on your own. This class offers individualized instruction and a chance to take small steps so you are more confident to row on your own. If you have rowed before or you do other small boat activities you may just sign up for the longer class but it is very beneficial to take both and gets you more water time.
Feel free to email our Learn To Row instructor, Valan Polley here with any questions.
What you need before you row: Before you're able to row please process the paperwork done before the class begins. We will need for you to sign a waiver and have a paper copy of a swim test so it's good to show up a few minutes early the first day to any class.
What To Wear?We recommend comfortable, but not baggy, athletic clothes and shoes that you can slip out of at the dock.
